Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Begot, operated by Aligned AI (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
The service and its limits
Begot helps organize family records and investigate genealogical questions about deceased people. Features can include documentary research, source citations, family trees, reports, narration, and collaboration. Available features, sources, and results vary. We do not guarantee an answer, identification of a relative, access to a particular archive, a completion time, or uninterrupted availability.
Your account
You must have the legal capacity to agree to these terms, provide accurate account information, and keep your sign-in credentials secure. Do not share login credentials; use available collaboration features instead. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. Notify us promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. The service is not intended for children under 13.
Your content and permissions
You retain your rights in the files and information you provide. You give Aligned AI permission to store, copy, process, and display that content as needed to provide the service and the features you request, including processing by service providers. This permission does not transfer ownership. You must have the rights, authority, and any required consent to upload or share information, including information about living relatives and DNA matches.
Research, evidence, and AI output
AI-generated findings, summaries, translations, and narration can contain errors or omissions. Review the underlying sources, citations, identity distinctions, conflicts, and stated uncertainty before relying on a result. A suggested match or recorded claim is not proof of a family relationship. DNA uploads are not a medical or identity test, and current documentary research does not establish genetic relationships from those uploads. Results may be incomplete or may end without a conclusion.
Research credits
Research is unlimited during testing. No credits are spent and your existing balance is preserved.
Purchases, renewals, and billing questions
If paid features are available, the selected offer and checkout identify the price, applicable taxes, credits or membership benefits, and any recurring billing terms. A recurring membership renews as disclosed at checkout until canceled. Contact the address below for cancellation, disputed charges, refund requests, or credit-balance problems, and include the receipt or account email without payment-card details. Canceling a subscription and deleting account data are separate requests. Nothing in these terms removes refund, cancellation, or other consumer rights required by law.
Sharing and third-party sources
You decide whether to invite collaborators or share research. Only share material you are entitled to disclose, and remember that recipients may retain copies after access is revoked. Archives, commercial collections, external websites, and independent researchers may impose their own access conditions, fees, and terms. A citation or accessible record does not grant permission to republish copyrighted material. You are responsible for obtaining any permissions needed for your intended use.
Acceptable use
Use the service for lawful genealogy. Do not use research features to investigate living people, harass or expose someone’s private information, misrepresent evidence, infringe rights, upload malicious content, bypass access controls or paywalls, or disrupt other users. Do not automate abusive requests, scrape the product, or reverse engineer it except where applicable law permits. Do not submit credentials, identity documents, or unrelated sensitive data as research material.
Product and source rights
Aligned AI and its licensors retain their rights in the software, branding, and service design. These terms permit you to use the service for its intended purposes; they do not transfer those rights. Historical sources and third-party materials remain subject to their owners’ rights and repository conditions. We do not promise that AI-generated output is unique or eligible for copyright protection.
Reliance and consumer protections
The service and its output are provided as available. To the extent permitted by law, we disclaim warranties that results will be accurate, complete, uninterrupted, or suitable for a particular purpose. Research is not legal, medical, inheritance, citizenship, or official identity advice. Seek appropriate professional advice before making consequential decisions. Nothing in these terms excludes liability or limits warranties, remedies, or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
Stopping use, suspension, and deletion
You may stop using the service and contact us about closing your account or deleting information. Removing a family profile is not account deletion and does not delete saved research. We may restrict or suspend access to address misuse, security risks, legal requirements, or material breaches of these terms. Where appropriate, we will explain the restriction and how to contact us about it. Retention and deletion are described in the Privacy Policy.
Changes and questions about these terms
We may update these terms as the service changes. The effective date identifies the applicable revision; we will provide additional notice and obtain agreement where required by law. Updates do not retroactively remove rights relating to an earlier purchase. If you have a concern or dispute, contact us so we can try to resolve it. These terms do not prevent you from using courts, regulators, or other remedies available under applicable law.
